As a result of ongoing Houthi attacks on shipping lanes in the Red Sea, most container ships between the Far East and Europe, which would normally take passage via the Red Sea and Suez Canal, are currently being diverted around the Cape of Good Hope. Consequences of this re-routing are shipping delays, extended transit times, reduced vessel availability, a growing shortage of containers, and increasing sea freight costs.
Brian Johnson, VP Functional Additives, stated, “We have informed our customers that Valtris’ manufacturing locations in the UK and Europe source raw materials from multiple countries, including some in the Far East, for the production of their Additives and Intermediates product ranges. However, a key element of our business process is to manage the security of supply of all raw materials used and, as a result, Valtris has several sources of raw materials approved from different supply locations.”
Jennifer Hill, VP Global Procurement, added, “Whilst we are confident that we can manage the current Red Sea/Suez Canal situation without any significant disruption to the supply of our products, we are in regular dialogue with all suppliers to understand and minimize any potential impact to our business.”
